Lawyer Mahmood Alwadyani stated that the Minor Criminal Court has scheduled August 31, 2022, to deliver its verdict in the case involving his client and another individual accused of insulting religious symbols through a live broadcast on the TikTok platform.
Alwadyani noted that he presented his oral defense on Monday afternoon, submitting several legal arguments. He said, “If our defense has not clearly established the lack of evidence against our client and his entitlement to a full acquittal, we respectfully request the Court to exercise the utmost leniency, given the young age of the accused.
He further clarified that the alleged insult did not originate from the accused himself but was simply a chant being played inside the car he was in, and not something the accused had created.
Alwadyani emphasized that “Doubt should be interpreted in favor of the accused, especially in the absence of concrete evidence proving his intent to cause division or discord. In fact, it is evident that he was unaware of the meanings of the phrases attributed to him.” Based on this, he again appealed to the Court to apply the maximum degree of compassion and reduce the sentence to its minimum, with a request to suspend its execution.
